Day 1 – Departure
Our Costa Rican adventure begins as we fly to San José, Costa Rica. Upon arrival at the newly remodeled airport, our tour guide and driver meet us and we board our deluxe touring coach. On the way to San José, the capital of approximately one million inhabitants, we catch our first glimpse of the lively city. In flight meal
Day 2 – San José
Get ready for an adventure to remember! Today we will brave the rapids of the Pacuare River, considered one of the most exciting in Costa Rica, on our class III – IV white water rafting trip. The Pacuare is known for its exhilarating yet manageable rapids. It is perfect for all levels – engaging enough for experienced rafters, but not overwhelming. Most people agree that a white water rafting excursion is a highlight of their trip. This evening is free for some much deserved relaxation. B/D
Day 3 – San José
This morning we enjoy a walk along the trails at La Paz Gardens. Don’t forget your camera, because along the trails we see many breath-taking waterfalls. We have some time to enjoy the other attractions at La Paz, including the Butterfly Observatory, Hummingbird Garden, Serpentarium, and Frog Exhibit. This afternoon we give our first performance in Costa Rica. B/D
Day 4 – San José
Today we visit the simmering Poás Volcano, where we are able to hike up the volcano’s main crater and view the emerald green pool of water cupped between the barren crater walls. This afternoon we have our second performance. Whether it is an exchange with a local band, a performance at a school or in the community, it will certainly be memorable! B/D
Day 5 – La Fortuna
After breakfast at the hotel this morning, we board our bus and head to La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano. On the way, we stop in Sarchí and Zarcero. Sarchí is a small town known for its woodworking and craftsmanship, especially its wide variety of handmade oxcarts–a common and traditional symbol of Costa Rica. Zarcero is famous for its topiary garden–an elaborate garden with trees and bushes manicured into various figures. Upon arrival, we check-in to our hotel and have some free time to explore the grounds. After dinner this evening, we visit the local hot springs where we can soak in the thermally heated mineral pools. B/D
Day 6 – La Fortuna
This morning we experience the rain forest like never before - zipping by cable through the treetops! The La Fortuna Sky Trek system includes a cable car ride up the mountain and eight zip lines down. Participants are attached individually to the zip lines with two high quality harnesses, which support the body so that you feel as though you’re sitting in a chair. Safety is the number one priority of the Sky Trek team, and as such, fun and excitement become the prevalent memory of visitors. After some free time for lunch, we’ll visit the Fortuna Waterfall, where we can walk the hundreds of steps down and swim in the pool at the base of the falls. (Remember, hundreds of steps down means hundreds of steps back up!) The remainder of the day is free to enjoy the amenities of the hotel. B/D
Day 7 – Guanacaste Coast
Today we make our way to the Guanacaste Coast, known for its many beautiful beaches. Upon arrival, the day will be yours to enjoy the pristine waters and golden beaches, or explore the quaint town. These evening we enjoy dinner together at our hotel. B/D
Day 8 – Guanacaste Coast
Surf lessons are scheduled for this morning, so slick on lots of sun screen and get ready to ride the waves of the Pacific! Surfing is one of the main attractions on the Guanacaste Coast … so you’ve come to a great place to learn. The afternoon will be free for relaxing on the beach, or perhaps having our third concert in Costa Rica. B/D
Day 9 – San José
Today we are in store for an exciting journey through the mountains and back to San José. We may also have our third performance today, if it was not possible yesterday. This evening we enjoy a farewell dinner where we can relive the trip highlights! B/D
Day 10 – Return
Sadly, it is time to say “adios” to Costa Rica as we are transported back to the international airport. We leave with fond memories of a delightfully entertaining, educational and adventurous week in Costa Rica. B/In flight meal
BRT will plan World Class performance opportunities for you!
Costa Rica as a destination offers the opportunity to experience mountains, rainforests and beaches all on the same tour. It also offers the opportunity to embrace a culture whose people are warm and inviting. It is a destination that provides a variety of performance experiences.
Costa Rican performances provide many different opportunities, such as performing or participating in a clinic at a local college, and joint performance in with a local performance group (There are schools in San Jose and Guanacaste specifically for music students). These options not only give you a wonderful performance/clinic opportunity, it also allows your students to interact with locals and see there musical way of life!
The parks and nature in Costa Rica provide wonderful back grounds and natural environments for performances. Often Costa Rican parks have amphitheaters and band shells where Costa Ricans gather in the evenings to listen to music. Local churches can function as community centers where Costa Rican’s in smaller towns and villages gather to listen to groups perform as well. There are also cultural centers that make wonderful venues for groups to perform in.
There are larger theaters such as the El Teatro Nacional (The National Theater), Teatro Melico Salazar and the Eugene O’Neill Theater which are wonderful venues to perform in.
