The Alumni Association in conjunction with the upcoming visit to Carnegie Hall by the University’s Symphony Band extends an invitation for you to join with your fellow alum as we treat “this city that never sleeps”, to some Midwestern fun and cheer.

Trip Itinerary
Day #1 — Monday, March 17, 2008 Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Arrive at LaGuardia Airport, NY and transfer to your hotel in midtown Manhattan. After checking into your hotel make your way over to the Great Avenue – Fifth Ave - and join in the celebration of the day the 247th “wearing of the green” in New York.

Today is the 247th annual St. Patrick’s Day parade along Fifth Ave, the parade stretches from 44th Street up to 83rd Street. And to this day, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade remains true to its roots by not allowing floats, automobiles and other commercial aspects in. Marching is what you’ll see. Great bands, be they bagpipes or an entire orchestra, over 150,000 people from all over the country and the world march each year.

After the parade join many of the participants and others and visit one of the many Irish Pubs that are located in mid-town Manhattan to continue the day’s festivities.

This evening take time to go over your guide book in order to plan your activities for tomorrow.

Day #2 — Tuesday, March 18, 2008

Today is a day to become a New Yorker, leave your hotel and venture out in this most vibrant of cities on an experience of a lifetime; by using your New York Pass you will experience a number of the many highlights that help make up this vibrant city. Possibly start with a visit to the Empire State Building or perhaps pay a visit to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, where a large number of our ancestors entered the United States, or start your day with a visit to one of the many world famous museums that are located in New York. 

Day #3 — Wednesday, March 19, 2008

Today is the day to let your Hawkeye pride shine. The early part of the day you are free to roam and visit the sites of New York, again using your New York Pass and your Metro card. This evening please join with fellow alum for our included group dinner. Then head over to Carnegie Hall to enjoy the fantastic performance by The University of Iowa Symphony Band; afterwards join with others at a reception at Carnegie Hall to greet old friends and to say hello to today’s great students.*

Day #4 — Thursday, March 20, 2008

Check out of the hotel at your leisure and transfer back to the airport for your flight home, with numerous memories of both your New York visit and your Hawkeye pride.
