| Day 1: We meet at your town of departure to board our bus to O’Hare Airport, and check in for our flight to Bangor, ME. Upon arrival in Bangor, we are met and transferred to Bar Harbor and our hotel where we settle in for a two-night stay.
Day 2: Today we spend some time getting acquainted with the charms of the nearby seafaring communities of Belfast, Searsport, Bucksport and Ellsworth. Then we return to Bar Harbor for a delicious Maine Lobster Dinner. (B, D)
Day 3: After breakfast we depart our hotel and Bar Harbor and head to Acadia National Park with a trip to the top of Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the Atlantic Coast. Then we will pay a visit to the L. L. Bean Factory Outlet in Freeport with sightseeing in Kennebunkport. (B)
Day 4: We depart Ogunquit and travel to Gloucester, America’s oldest seaport. Since records have been kept, over 5,000 Gloucesterman have been lost at sea trying to earn a living catching fish. The movie “The Perfect Storm” was based on the real life experiences of these local fishermen. Afterward, visit the seaport town of Salem whose reputation as the “Venice of the New World” was superseded by its role in the infamous Witch Trials. A driving tour past the House of Seven Gables, made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne, precedes a stop at the Witch Trials Monument and powerful Salem Witch Museum. Our hotel tonight will be in the heart of the historic district of Boston. (B)
Day 5: After breakfast we depart Boston and head to Cape Cod. We will travel to Woods Hole and board the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. An island tour gives us time to explore before heading back to “Olde Cape Cod” for a New England dinner. After dinner we will check into our hotel which will be our home for the next two nights. Day 6: This morning we board a ferry to charming Nantucket Island for a visit to the 17th century Jethro Coffin House and the Old Mill. We enjoy a delicious seafood lunch before we return to Hyannis. (B, L)
Day 7: We leave Hyannis behind us and head to Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower II. We will experience Plimoth Plantation, a 17th century living history museum. We will have a New
England Farewell Dinner and overnight in Plymouth. (B, D)
Day 8: After breakfast we depart beautiful Cape Cod and head to Boston to check in for our return flight to Chicago. (B) |
