Day 1: We meet at your town of departure to board our bus to O’Hare Airport, and check in for our flight to San Francisco. Upon arrival in this beautiful city by the bay, we are transferred to our hotel were we will unpack once for the next five nights. Our hotel is located at Fisherman’s Wharf, within walking distance of the trolley cars, Pier 39 and more. A welcome dinner is planned for this evening (D)
Day 2: Enjoy a day of city touring, from Cow Hollow to Nob Hill, and Golden Gate Park to Union Square with a special culinary tour of Chinatown. Lunch will feature dim sum delicacies with a wine pairing. (B, L)
Day 3: Today we will head over the Golden Gate Bridge and travel along the rugged coastline to Bodega Bay. Then we will follow the Russian River Valley from Jenner through Guerneville and into Healdsburg for lunch, al fresca, with a wine pairing at the beautiful Passalacqua Winery in the Dry Creek Valley. On the return, we will stop in the charming community of Sausalito with time to browse in the shops and galleries. (B, L)
Day 4: Today we head into the heart of the Sonoma Valley for a stop at the Sonoma Plaza. We will see where the California Bear Flag was first raised in 1846 and visit Mission San Francisco Solano, the northernmost in California’s chain of missions. Then, we continue on to the B.R. Cohn Vineyard in Glen Ellen, once a stagecoach stop for Wells Fargo. Then we cross over to the Napa Valley and enjoy stops in the picturesque towns of Calistoga and St. Helena on the famous Napa Valley Wine Trail. Visit the Niebaum-Coppola Estate winery, founded in 1879, now owned by producer Francis ford Coppola. A tasting and tour at the Inglenook Chateau features memorabilia from Mr. Coppola’s movie career. Later, board the famous Napa Valley Wine Train for a gourmet dinner as you rail through the beautiful Napa Valley Wine Country. (B, D)
Day 5: Enjoy your Sunday morning at leisure before we depart for a performance of Beach Blanket Babylon, a wacky musical revue with elaborate costuming and huge hats. After the show, dinner is planned at the venerable Cliff House that has recently undergone an $18 million renovation. Dinner will be served with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean! (B, D)
Day 6: After breakfast we depart our hotel and this beautiful city as we transfer to the airport for our flight back to Chicago. (B) |
