3 Country Alpine Adventure
Journey among the mighty peaks of Switzerland, Germany, Austria during this comprehensive alpine Europe tour.  Drink in the spectacular scenic beauty of the Alps as you travel through Europe’s most renowned and majestic landscapes and visit charming villages surrounded by mountains and meadows. Visit the church made famous in the wedding scene of the film “The Sound of Music” indulge yourself in the famous Sacher-Torte in Innsbruck. The memories of your adventures in the Alps will be ones to last a lifetime.

Day 1: We meet at your town of departure to board our bus to O’Hare Airport for our early evening departure on our major international airline for our flight to Munich. We will be served dinner and can watch a movie during our overnight flight. (In-flight meals)

Day 2: Touch down in Munich, one of Europe’s vibrant cities. We will be met by our Tour Manager; after we clear customs, he will be with us for the duration of our stay in Europe. We will depart the airport on our private coach and transfer to our hotel. We will be on our own for a few hours to rest and relax, or go for a walk around some of the market stalls in Munich. Tonight we will meet for a welcome drink with our Tour Manager before we join in a specialty Bavarian style buffet dinner. (D)

Day 3: Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before our departure for Lake Mondsee in Austria. We’ll spend lunchtime here and also visit the church made famous in the wedding scene of the film the “Sound of Music”. Later we drive deep into the Lakes District and visit Hallstatt. Set on a rocky terrace jutting into the quiet dark water of the lake surrounded by towering peaks, this is considered the oldest inhabited village in Europe and perhaps the most beautiful in Austria. Afterwards, passing Wolfgangsee (lake), we soon reach Fuschi – the tiny country village on Lake Fuschi. This evening we take part in an escorted torch lit village walk. (B, D)

Day 4: After breakfast, we depart on a full day excursion to Salzburg – the city of Mozart. A two hour city tour with a local guide will introduce us to this enchanting city, including several locations used in the film “Sound of Music”. The rest of day is free for us to enjoy the city. The huge castle makes a fascinating visit and don’t forget to soak up the atmosphere of the famous Salzburg Markets. Mid afternoon we depart Salzburg with a detour en route ‘home’ to nearby Obernforf and visit the famous “Silent Night Chapel” on the site where the Christmas carol was first performed. (B, D)

Day 5: Following the spectacular Inn Valley across the Tyrol we reach the Winter Olympic resort of Innsbruck by mid morning. We will have plenty of time to explore the Old Town and see the famous "Golden Roof”. Later we continue past ST. Anton and through the Arlberg into the Upper Toggenburg region of Switzerland. The scenery is exhilarating with fairytale forests overlooked by towering mountains. We soon reach the little village of Wildhaus our home for the next two nights. (B, D)

Day 6: Passing by the tiny principality of Liechtenstein and heading to Lake Constance we enter Germany. We spend the afternoon in the beautifully preserved island town of Lindau complete with medieval lighthouses and cobble stoned streets. (B, D)

Day 7: We depart Wildcats and head towards Bern, reaching Bern by mid morning. This medieval sandstone city is listed in its entirety as a world cultural landmark by the United Nations. In the afternoon we continue deep into the heart of the glorious Bernese Oberland region to our hotel in the delightful village of Adelboden. Set at an altitude of 1,400 meters (4,500 feet) Adelboden really is a traditional mountain village with old wooden chalets, overhanging roofs and surrounded by spectacular 3000 meter peaks. (B, D)

Day 8: Being in such a delightful location surrounded by towering peaks and natures beauty we will spend the day at leisure. You may take some relaxing time to shop in the charming village or visit the ice skating rink or perhaps ride high in the mountains on the cable car and have your lunch at the top. As dusk approaches take time to enjoy the old village. (B, D)

Day 9: A special day today! We reach Kandersteg at the base of a 12,000 foot mountain chain where we drive our coach onto a train for the 15km ride through the tunnel to the other side. At Tasch we catch a cog railway train up to the world-famous alpine resort of Zermatt. Set at an altitude of 5,315 feet the village is surrounded by a dozen huge peaks and dominating all is the mighty Matterhorn. Relax in the crisp clean air or perhaps take the Gornergrat funicular train to the highest open air railway station in Europe. At 10,170 feet the view from the top across the Alps is beyond belief. Day 10: Bidding farewell to our mountain village we drive up one of the most inspiring valleys in Europe and stop at the picture-postcard village of Gindelwald. Towering high over this chic ski resort is the sheer rock wall of the North Face of the Eiger perhaps take the famous Jungfraujoch Railway to the summit. We’ll spend the morning here before taking the Brunig Pass to the lovely lake-side town of Luzern with its covered wooden bridges. Arriving mid afternoon the rest of the day is free to explore this fascinating city. Our farewell dinner tonight promises to be an unforgettable traditional Swiss fare and a Folklore show. (B, D)

Day 11: Sadly after breakfast we must bid our goodbyes to this beautiful area, and we are transferred to the airport for our flight home. (B)

We will use a major international airline from Chicago to Munich and return from Zurich to Chicago.  Flights from other cities can be arranged at a possible additional cost.
