A Barge Journey in Burgundy
A canal barge is a small vessel that carries from six to fifty passengers. More like a floating Bed & Breakfast than a boat, very often a barge is a vessel originally built in the early 1900's as a freighter before being converted to a hotel barge. Their amenities are generally more inclusive than the usual cruise experience, offering everything from saunas, Jacuzzis and bicycles onboard, to open bars on some barges. However, most barges do not have televisions, phones, laundry service or Internet connection onboard. Pricing on a barge is all-inclusive, with all meals, excursions and taxes included. Barging is a casual vacation experience and can either be as relaxing or fast-paced as you wish. The slow movement of the barge allows for biking or walking alongside without being left behind. A canal cruise is typically 6 nights/7 days in length.
